Recovery Protocol · Meniscus Surgery

Meniscus repair has a narrow healing window. Nutrition is one of the few modifiable factors.

Whether you've had a meniscus repair, partial meniscectomy, or root repair, the meniscus has limited blood supply and a narrow healing window. The OVIAL Surgical Nutrition Kit was formulated to support tissue repair, manage inflammation, and preserve the quadriceps integrity that drives long-term knee outcomes.

OVIAL Surgical Nutrition Kit

Why nutrition matters specifically for meniscus surgery.

01

The meniscus is poorly vascularized.

Only the outer third of the meniscus has blood supply. The inner two-thirds depend entirely on diffusion for nutrients. Anabolic priming and clinical-dose collagen support give your healing tissue every advantage during the narrow repair window.

02

Quadriceps atrophy compounds knee dysfunction.

Even outpatient meniscus surgery causes measurable quad atrophy in the first 10 days. Quad weakness directly impacts knee stability and long-term outcomes. EAA + leucine and creatine — taken before PT — directly target the atrophy window.

03

Inflammation control protects the joint.

Post-meniscus surgery inflammation contributes to early-onset osteoarthritis risk over years and decades. POST Capsules use curcumin and Vit D3/K2 to modulate inflammation through different pathways than NSAIDs — without compromising healing.

The 3-Phase Meniscus Protocol

Three phases. One kit.

Phase 01 · Pre-Op 14 days before surgery

Anabolic Priming

Pre-load EAAs, creatine, and micronutrients to enter surgery in a positive nitrogen balance. Patients arriving anabolically primed lose less quad mass in the first 10 days post-op.

→ OVIAL PRE · Lemon · 14 packets
Phase 02 · Acute Day 0 → Day 14

Halt Atrophy · 2× Collagen

Whey isolate, EAA + leucine, creatine, and TendoForte® collagen — taken 30–45 minutes before PT to prime tendon and muscle for load. Critical even after outpatient meniscus surgery.

→ OVIAL POST · Powder · 28 servings
Phase 03 · Rehab Wk2 → Mo6

Inflammation Control

Curcumin, Vit D3 + K2, magnesium glycinate. Modulates surgical inflammation without compromising healing — and supports long-term joint health beyond the immediate recovery window.

→ OVIAL POST · Capsules · 112 ct

Common meniscus questions.

I had a meniscectomy, not a repair — does the Kit still help?

Yes. While meniscectomy doesn't require the same tissue-repair healing as a repair, post-op quad atrophy and inflammation still matter — and meniscectomy patients have elevated long-term osteoarthritis risk that benefits from sustained inflammation modulation. The full Kit applies; you may not need to extend Capsules as long as repair patients.

I had a meniscus root repair — different protocol?

Root repairs are biomechanically critical and have longer non-weight-bearing protocols (often 6 weeks). The Kit's protocol applies — the extended NWB phase makes the EAA + creatine in POST Powder even more important for preserving quadriceps during immobilization. Discuss your specific timeline with your surgeon.

My surgery was outpatient — do I really need this?

Outpatient surgery doesn't change the underlying biology. Quad atrophy still happens, inflammation still occurs, and meniscus tissue still needs collagen support to heal. The Kit's 3-phase protocol is just as relevant for outpatient knee surgery as inpatient.

I'm a runner — when can I get back to running?

Return to running after meniscus repair typically takes 4–6 months minimum, with progression dependent on surgical findings and PT milestones. Meniscectomy patients can often return faster (4–8 weeks). The Kit's inflammation-modulation phase is particularly relevant during the gradual return-to-impact window.
