Tommy John Surgery Recovery Supplements
Tommy John surgery, or ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) reconstruction, replaces a torn elbow ligament with a tendon graft. For pitchers, the road back usually takes 12 to 18 months, so every phase of recovery counts.
Nutrition supports the graft as it turns into a strong new ligament, helps protect arm and shoulder strength, and needs to be safe for athletes who get drug-tested.

What recovery from Tommy John surgery looks like
After surgery, the elbow is braced and motion is restored gradually. The tendon graft, often taken from the forearm or hamstring, goes through months of remodeling before it can handle throwing stress.
Return-to-play rates are generally high, around 80% to 95%, but pitchers typically take 12 to 18 months to return. A recent meta-analysis found 88.7% of UCL reconstruction patients returned to sport. Johns Hopkins Medicine notes most throwers gradually return to competitive throwing between 6 and 9 months.

Supplement safety for tested athletes
Contaminated supplements are a real risk for athletes who get drug-tested. NSF Certified for Sport tests products for substances banned by WADA and leading sports organizations, including Major League Baseball and the NFL. It's the only independent certification program recognized by MLB, USADA, the NHL and the CFL.
Every OVIAL batch is NSF Certified for Sport. High school and college athletes should still check with their athletic trainer or team physician.
How the OVIAL system fits
OVIAL PRE builds collagen, amino acid and vitamin D reserves before surgery. OVIAL POST supports the first month after surgery with 15 g of collagen peptides, essential amino acids, whey protein isolate, creatine and HMB, when the arm is braced and muscle loss is fastest. Because UCL rehab is long, many athletes continue POST into the strengthening phase.
